Expedition members wanted

Saturday 29th July 2006

Pioneer Expeditions are looking for a maximum of eight team members to take part in an expedition to the Philippines. While no special level of skill is required, the expedition will particularly appeal to those who have a strong interest in swimming, diving or just participating in a unique adventure.

The expedition will explore what is known as the ‘last frontier’ of the Philippines, the group of 1768 islands that make up the Palawan province. A total logging ban since the late ‘70s and strict fishing laws have preserved Palawan’s unique wilderness which provides the perfect backdrop for this expedition.

The Palawan expedition, which departs on 5th November 2006 for 18 days, aims to be the first group to swim across Lake Danao, a volcanic lake...

Other highlights of the expedition include boating along the longest underground river in the world, searching for the elusive dugong and trekking through tropical rainforests before relaxing on a luxurious island beach resort.

The Pioneer Expedition concept is to combine ‘roughing it’ – in this case trekking in the jungle – with relaxation and luxury. Expedition members will have plenty of time to unwind on the white sand beaches around the islands and take in the fantastic scenery both in and out of the water. There will be opportunities for expedition members to go diving at, in the words of expedition leader Simon Jordan, ‘the best diving sites in the world. It is the most beautiful and unspoilt place I have ever been diving…it’s simply breathtaking’. It is also possible to snorkel over the many wrecks found in these shallow waters.

More details of the Palawan, Philippines 2006 expedition can be found on the Pioneer website www.pioneerexpeditions.com.
