Be a Palawan Pioneer

October 2006, What’s Bubbling?

Pioneer Expeditions specializes in one-off trips to achieve unusual objectives. Its latest is to Palawan, a group of 1768 islands known as the “last frontier” of the Philippines. It consists of a two-day trek through tropical rainforest, canoeing thorough the world’s longest underground river and swimming across volcanic Lake Danao (optional). How much diving is involved is unclear but the organizers promise the chance to dive reefs and wrecks after the main objectives have been completed. You pay £2450 for 18 days, including internal flights, transfers, lodgings and most meals.
