New tour operator Pioneer Expeditions offers one-off challenges in exotic places for holidaymakers with a thirst for adventure. A two-week expedition to Tanzania starting on December 3 combines game viewing in the Selous Reserve with a first descent of the Rufiji river in a shallow draft safari boat, followed by a sail in a traditional Arab dhow through the river’s delta to Kilwa Kisiwani Island. The price of the trip is £2,850 for full board and activities, but excluding international flights.
