Adventure company launches for budding pioneers

A new adventure holiday company has launched to offer 'real adventurers' the chance to experience expedition firsts.

Pioneer Expeditions Worldwide claims it will target a niche market of budding pioneers who want an expedition-style holiday which has never been run before.

The operator is already working with three specialist travel agents and hopes to establish relationships with more.

Agents will earn commission of 7%-12% depending on the trip.

Pioneer Expeditions Worldwide believes that adventure holidays are increasingly becoming mainstream and catering to a mass market, so there is a need for original one-off itineraries for small groups of dedicated adventurers.

Founder and managing director Adrian Gray has worked as a tour leader in over 20 countries. Fellow adventurer Phil Beale, who led the successful Borobudur Ship Expedition in 2003/04, is a director.

Pioneer Expeditions has organised four expeditions for 2006/07, including a swim across a volcanic crater lake in Palawan, Philippines in November and a raft and trek down the Zomando River in Madagascar in March.

Only eight spaces are available on each trip and there is no need for specialist skills and no age limit.
