Trekking the SAS routes of Jebal Akhdar

This is a truly unique Pioneer trip uncovering the SAS routes of Jebal Akhdar. This expedition, which we run once a year is designed to bring to life the reality facing the squadrons as they made their ascent and takeover of Jebal Akhdar. With relatively few changes since the SAS takeover of Jebal Akhdar 60 years ago, we retrace routes, passing through tiny villages hidden in pockets in the mountain folds, and uncover untouched caves and relics.

The unforgiving and fiercely rugged terrain, at times makes for back breaking work - and that’s without carrying the full kit. This landscape of rocky mountains, steep cliffs and breathtaking scenery really does offer an opportunity for a really adventurous trek.

Upon completion, you will not only have a unique insight into this military conflict, but also be able to appreciate this exciting landscape.

 

This expedition will uncover the SAS routes of Jebal Akhdar which is a plateau measuring twelve miles from north to south and eighteen miles from east to west. With an average elevation of 6,500 ft, it is locked behind sheer cliffs of rock and shale, some rising 10,000 ft above the surrounding plain.

This expedition demands a high fitness level as the ascent and descent are tough.  All expedition members should be good walkers or get in training!  Maximum of just eight participants.

This is a truly unique trip and as such we only run it once a year.  With a maximum of 10 participants, we do recommend early booking to guarantee your place on our next expedition

The price for this expedition is £1350, this excludes international flights (Please see booking).  Pioneer Expeditions have ATOL bonding (ATOL no: 10113) so if you prefer we can also book your international flights in addition to this adventure providing you with increased protection and convenience.
