Due to the nature of adventure trips, the following itinerary has to remain flexible. Our water team have coached many thousands of people with a wide range of abilities and backgrounds on big volume across Africa and specifically on the White Nile. This local knowledge and broad teaching base will be used to adjust the itinerary to suit the individuals and to maximise progression over the course of the trip.
Uganda Nile Kayaking Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
You will be collected from Entebbe Airport, and driven to the Hairy Lemon Island – 45km from the source of the Nile. A chance to unpack, relax and acclimatize for the adventure to come.
Day 2: First day Kayaking
The first day of kayaking will start with the absolute basics, covering all the essential flat water strokes. For those who have some paddling experience prior to the trip, we will look at consolidating your skills and ironing out any bad habits.
Day 3: Kayaking
Progression from the previous day, still mostly on flat water but we’ll also begin to look at strokes and techniques aimed at moving water. We will also learn the beginnings of rolling (re-righting the kayak).
Day 4: To Bujagali, first river trip
In the morning we’ll move move upstream from the Hairy Lemon to our second camp at the village of Bujagali, near to Jinja and Speke’s source of the Nile. Today we’ll also undertake our first river trip – an 8km stretch with rapids of grade 1 to 4 difficulty – applying the techniques learnt the previous two days to easy moving water and gaining an understanding of some of the key concepts of moving water. We will work hard on our core stokes and concepts.
Day 5: Jinja
In the morning, we’ll take a closer look at your roll in one of the local swimming pools. In the afternoon we’ll have a chance to visit Jinja with its famous market and in the evening, the option of going to the party at NRE bar (legendary!). There is also potential for additional adventure activities such as bungee jumping, quad biking, horse riding, mountain biking, and rafting the main day 1 section (not included in the trip cost).
Having had some well-earned rest, we’ll tackle a different section of the river. This is a great section for developing skills and practicing those of the previous few days, plus you can have a go at surfing your kayak on one of the Nile’s best, and most friendly, standing waves.
Day 7: White Nile Rapids
The final chance to test all your new white water skills! Guided by your experienced coach you will tackle a full section of the mighty White Nile – friendly, big volume rapids and another chance to try your hand at surfing one of Nile’s famous waves.
Day 8: transfer to Airport for flight home
Pack up and travel back to Entebbe Airport to fly home.
